Sergeant
Richard Chambers kicked the broken taillight off the highway on
to the shoulder.
You didn’t see it as much these days, a single car collision,
the driver drunk. At least it didn’t happen as often as when
he had first joined the force just before the turn of the millennium.
He could only imagine the terrible squealing and grinding sounds
the accident would have made, but he could see the broken wreckage,
the black tire marks, and the blood spread across the road. It was
a wintery February 26, 2014. It was cold as Richard Chambers stared
out over the empty snow covered field; the din of the traffic was
almost inaudible to him now. In fifteen years he had never gotten
used to that scene and he knew he never would. He resolved that
night that he would do his best to prevent anybody he could influence
from becoming a traffic cop.
They arrived at the hospital in two separate ambulances. Joanne Herbst
had terrible internal injuries and was admitted to the intensive care
unit. Peter Crowley was treated for a broken leg and released into custody
of the police. The remarkable thing about them was that they constantly
wanted to know about each other even when the cried in pain it was for
the other.
Joanne survived six days after the accident. She died of her injuries
at 11:00 PM on March 4, 2014. They didn’t reach Peter until 3:00
AM. When he hobbled into the hospital on his crutches, the tears blinding
him, he was handed a note that his love had written just shortly before
her death.
Love
of my life.
I fear I will not survive the night to see you one more time.
So I must write this note for you to tell you of my love. I
have always said that I have known you longer than I have been
alive. We will not be able to complete our lives together now.
But I have confidence we will meet again. I have loved you since
the beginning of time and I will still love you when the time
and space cease to exist. I know in my heart that the currents
of time that have brought us together so many time before will
bring us together again and again and again. So goodbye for
now, and I will see you in the next life.
Your Soul mate forever (and a day)

They found Peter’s body on the bathroom floor. He was pronounced
dead from suicide at 3:45 AM on March 5, 2014. They found Joanne’s
note in his pocket. Next to him the also found the following words.
My
Dearest Lover
I know you will never read this note, at least not in this life.
I fear I failed you this time. I also fear if I go on now the
currents of time will drive us apart and I will never find your
soul again. I have much to make up for in future lives and I
want to do it with you. I have always loved you since the beginning
of time. I will still love you when the doomsday bomb destroys
time and space. Yes my love, we will meet again in the next
life.
Your Eternal Mate

The incident had a profound effect on the two nurses that had found
the bodies. Judy Dundas and Carla Lewis had met in nursing school.
They had become best of friends. When Carla found her job she told
Judy that
the hospital was hiring. When they could they tried to get the same
shifts. That night they knew that it was wrong to read the notes.
Except, they were both engaged and the intensity of the love they
saw made them
curious. They never directly revealed the contents of the notes, but
the story of the eternal love affair became legendary in both their
families.
Little more than twelve years later, On April 3, 2026, Judy gave birth
her second child, a younger brother to her daughter. They named the
child after her husband Charles Peters II. Coincidentally Carla gave
birth to her second child exactly a month later. Harriet Josephson
was born on May 3, 2026. From birth the two children were inseparable.
It
was clear to all that they would eventually marry.
They never tiered of their mothers’ tale about the lover’s.
They could listen all day as the women recounted the story of the
accident and the
suicide. No matter how much the children begged the contents of the notes
were never revealed. The children had to be content with the knowledge
that the couple
had felt together from the beginning to the end of time. They also were very
aware that they the two lovers felt an obligation to make up for their mistakes
in the next life.
Chuck and Harry, as they were known went to university together. They entered
politics together. They were married on Valentines Day of the year 2051. Harriet
wrote the following vows.
Love of my life.
I feel that now we are fulfilling what we lost before. So I write this vow to
you to tell you of my love. I have always said that I have known you longer
than I have been alive. We will now be able to complete our lives together.
I have loved you since the beginning of time and I will still love you when
the time and space cease to exist. I know in my heart that the currents of
time that have brought us together so many time before will again bring us
together again and again and again. So come with me now and we will face this
life together
Your Soul mate forever (and a day)

The vows Charles wrote went like this.
My Dearest Lover
I feel lucky that I can tell you now the things I missed before. I feared I failed
you in a past life. I also feared the currents of time would drive us apart,
and my punishment would be never finding your soul again. I know that I have
much to make up for in this life and I want to do it with you. I have always
loved you since the beginning of time. I will still love you when the doomsday
bomb destroys time and space. Yes my love, we will face this life together
because together we can accomplish all.
Your Eternal Mate

Together they did accomplish all. For years they worked together,
tirelessly for the cause of world peace. In time they were able
to bring all the
nations of the world together. They became chancellor and vice-chancellor
of the
Confederation of All Nations—the first true world government. Historians
said that the one of the main reasons that the treaty was signed was
the work of Charles Peters
and Harriet Josephson. The fact that they could work together so well
was instrumental in bringing the nations of the world together.
Friends I don’t know whether you believe in reincarnation. Can the events
of one lifetime influence the next? Have the currents of time brought us together
before. Have I told you this story so many times before and will I come before
you to recount time and time again. Or was it just the effect of the lovers on
the two young Nurses, so many years ago, that set the stage for the events we
celebrate today. You must decide for your self. I don’t know. None the
less I know that the tragic events of February 26, 2014 had somehow set the stage
for The Confederation of All the Nations. And that is a good thing because two
days after the armistice was signed, Richard Chambers III, a physicist, the grandson
of a traffic cop, published the definitive work of his career. The article proves
irrefutably the feasibility of the doomsday bomb—a bomb that could
spell the end of time and space, as we know it.
